Miss. Mikaela Deur
First and foremost, I'm proud to say that I'm a Grand Haven Christian alumni! I graduated from GHC in 2009 then went on to Western Michigan Christian. After high school, I pursued my degree in Early Childhood Education at Calvin College, where I graduated in the Spring of 2017.
Though this is my first year teaching, I have had many other opportunities which make me prepared to teach kindergarten. I've worked as a camp counselor at Camp Roger and interned during the 2016-2017 year in both an early childhood special education classroom and a first grade classroom.
I was born and raised in Grand Haven and after living in Grand Rapids for four years, I’ve made my way back to Grand Haven to teach. When I'm not teaching or prepping lessons, you might find me hanging out with my family, singing with the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus, taking photos, thrifting, or sipping an iced coffee. (But if I'm being honest with myself, I'm most likely at school!)
Integration of Faith in the Classroom:
After interning in public schools, I am so glad to be teaching at a school where I can openly share my faith and wonder aloud at God’s creativity. I love being able to point out ways that I see God revealing himself through his creation and challenging students in their walks with Christ. In our kindergarten classroom, faith isn’t contained to just Bible lessons, it’s woven throughout every aspect of the day.
I don’t brush my hair!
