KENIA DEFRANK, 4TH GRADE SPANISH IMMERSION

Kenia Defrank

4th Grade SI

I am a child of God by his love and grace. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, where I received a degree in Architecture; however, the good works which God prepared in advance (Ephesians 2:10) for me took me through a completely different path: Christian Education. I can now see how God used several events in my life to prepare me for that path, though.

At age 16 God called me to become a Sunday School teacher at my church. Then, at age 17, I became an ESL teacher as a way to practice my English while at the university. Little did I know that God was shaping me for what He had prepared. In 2011, God orchestrated the events in my life in a way that I ended working in a Christian School, where I learned what Christian Education consists of; I felt passionate about it! A year later, I understood God was calling me to join the work He is doing through Christian Education, and I embraced His call. He took me to the next step and led me through a Master’s Degree in Christian Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction at Indiana Wesleyan University. Not only has God invited me to join his work in Christian Education and supported me on the way, but He has also allowed me to be part of the GHC community where, by God’s grace, I have the privilege to share my native language and culture through the Spanish Immersion Program.

I enjoy the opportunity of inviting my students to see God’s hand at work all over his creation as we navigate the journey of learning academic contents, language, and culture with an eager expectation that they end up with such an awe that they will present all they get to learn and all they get to become in their lives as an offering to God. In my spare time, I love spending time with my lovely and energetic daughter Alexa, talking with my close relatives, reading, and having peace and quiet at home.

Deep Hope

My deep hope is that as you grow in knowledge, you will see God’s hand at work in His creation; and that it causes such an awe in you, that you will be moved to serve Him as a response of worship.

Mi anhelo es que mientras creces en conocimiento, veas la mano de Dios obrando en Su creación; y que eso cause tal asombro en tí, que seas movido a servirle a Él como respuesta de adoración.
